I MISS HK SO MUCH.
Okay correction – I miss being in HK with him.
Gonna update about my GZ X HK trip tomorrow after I get in some sleep!
Prior to the trip we actually had this exchange –
👦🏻: eh dyou think we will quarrel during the trip?
👧🏻: *gives him incredulous look* no la why you say that! I don't think we will quarrel. 😂
Before we travelled together I think we've only spent two consecutive days together. So it was gonna be the first time that we'll see each other round the clock for 5 days straight.
Come to think of it yes haha there MIGHT have been quarrels but to me the chances still very slight.
👦🏻: can you help me pack my luggage please?
*5 minutes later*
👦🏻: eh snap a photo of it for me, never see my luggage so neat before.
Guys luggage so easy to pack leh. So fuss free! If I were a guy I'll save so much time on packing for work trips every month. 🙄
Yay kaya toast breakfast at the airport!
Fun fact – I must have breakfast food for my first meal of the day, no matter what time it is. It bewilders me whenever people eat "lunch/dinner food" like BCM or nasi lemak for breakfast. Hahaha. My brain and taste buds cannot.
Just before take off.
The fact that part of it was a work trip for me surprisingly didn't bring down the excitement that much.
We were counting down to the trip wayyy before it happened and I was telling ZL that I enjoy the anticipation and that I didn't want the trip to come so soon because it'll be over too soon. Hahaha. Me and my weird logic.
👦🏻: okay then we postpone to following year. Want?
👧🏻: don't want la, next year go somewhere else please.
👦🏻: next year one we postpone to following year.
His logic also weird. LOL. #shitZLsays
I caught The Secret Life Of Pets onboard and I loved it!! So cute the animals! My fav is the fluffy white dog. 😍😂
Got a room at Fraser Suites instead of my usual at Marriott because the rates soared pretty high for god knows what reason.
Not too bad either!
We got a free upgrade with hotel breakfast thrown in. ✌🏻️
Checking out the scenery from 19th floor. I don't think GZ has nice skylines to offer because it's always so foggy and cloudy.
I still remembered last year when I went to climb Baiyun Mountain with @jongsy, the view was so dismal. Hahaha.
Okay time for a disclaimer. This was a candid shot. I didn't make him pose for this! He wouldn't have anyway. Lolol he finds this kinda shots damn posey. 😂😂😂
Because it was really Friday on the day I wore this tee. Paired it with the Courtney Pleated Midi in Olive!!
He shot me this semi-amused look when I walked out in this. LOL.
Brought him to one of the well-known shopping streets in GZ – 北京路!
Used to always head there for dinner when I stayed in that area. But ever since we got used to staying at Marriott, we hardly go there anymore.
It's always crowded on weekends and is a pretty popular hangout for their locals!
Food menus in GZ and HK are mostly in Chinese so no prizes for guessing who makes the orders. 😂👌🏻
I hardly ever eat outside of malls when I'm in GZ because I don't wanna risk my tummy. But he wanted to try the local food so…… we did.
We picked one with a decent crowd and bravely stepped in.
Lol. Roughly told him what's on the menu and we settled on two items – porridge and chee cheong fun.
I never knew that chee cheong fun was a food that was representative of GZ food. Lol. 😬 Goes to show how selective I have been with food when I'm on work trips.
Because it looked so much like a pile of unappetising mess, I wasn't expecting much.
But this was so good! We took a bite and was blown away by the texture of the chee cheong fun. The fillings consisted of beef and prawns!
Can't remember how much this was but damn cheap only. Food in GZ is much cheaper than in HK!
So that was my first taste of authentic local food after going to GZ for three years every month.
I would say that it went down well both literally and figuratively since we both escaped without food poisoning.
I remember it being a nice day to stroll along the streets aimlessly because it was slightly overcast and gloomy but no rain came.
Wanna take a photo of the dogs but his arm gotta photobomb. 😂
We wanted something sweet after the late lunch so I brought him to this place called 鲜芋仙 which I've tried before!
The concept is somewhat like Blackball, which we have in SG. They have a few outlets in GZ.. I've seen it around in malls too!
They had a nice patio area on the 3rd level and we decided to grab seats outside since the weather was cooling enough.
Don't remember what we ordered but I remembered making him write my name in Chinese characters.
How can my bf not know my Chinese name right??!!
But…. Bet he forgot already. Hahahaha.
Spent some time just sitting there and talking about random stuff.
Also bought this mega huge mango slushie thing which was SO FILLING. 😵
Didn't do anything much during our first day there other than roaming around 北京路 cause I had to get back in the evening to get started on work.
Our hotel breakfast the next morning. Not too shabby. I like the pastries and the round yam ball thingy!
He was asking me in the morning about where we would be going that day.
👧🏻: eh babe I'm gonna bring you to Europe…. in 5 minutes.
👦🏻: *skeptical face*
Hahahaha I don't know if he felt cheated but I was so amazed by the existence of this cathedral the first time I happened to pass by! For a brief moment when I first saw it, I thought I wasn't in China but in some other part of the world. Hahaha.
Even though it's definitely not as spectacular as the iconic cathedrals elsewhere, I thought it was an interesting place for ZL to get some sightseeing in before he accompanied me for work.
There's no entrance fee but do note that you can't take photos or videos inside the building.
We took some photos in front of the cathedral but as usual, we were being photobombed by 82849294992 other tourists. Lol.
It's called 圣心大教堂 Sacred Heart Cathedral located at 一德路旧部前56-7号 if anyone wants to visit!
Pretty easy to find and if you're lost, just ask the locals. Anyone should be able to direct you there. 👌🏻
Brought him for lunch at 翠华茶餐厅 where I usually have 2 out of 3 meals of my day at.
I asked him if he minded having HK food since we were gonna be heading to HK after GZ. But he was okay with it!
It's a good thing we're both pretty easygoing about food options and whatnot. I didn't really do much planning for the trip and left most of the itinerary open save for the few specific places I wanted to bring him to.
Went back to the hotel to get in a bit of work and I ended up finishing ahead of time. Had a few hours to spare so I suggested visiting this newly opened aquarium in the mall nearby!
We're big on animals but it was an aquarium in a mall afterall, so we went in without much expectations. LOL.
The entrance fee was 220rmb each but we managed to buy them at 180rmb each from this super dodge guy selling them at the entrance! Was initially apprehensive about it but we managed to get in so…. 😬
Decided to turn back time so that I can finish writing about the aquarium!
They also had some non aquatic animals inside. This particular lizard (?) wasn't too interesting, so we didn't linger.
*Edited: ZL insists that this isn't a lizard but a pre-evolution snake. Hahahaha. Is it encyclopedia! 😂
One of my favourite exhibits. I could stare at them forever.
And it's so fun to take boomerangs of them!
Jellyfish which looks like snowflakes, how cute. 😌❄️
Cute beluga whales which we were taken with.
They look so bald and plump and smiley!
AND THE BEST PART IS… They can interact with humans!!
Please excuse me for the many exclamation marks you're about to see. Lol.
HELLO YOU CUTIE 😍
We didn't realise that they were actually able to respond to us until ZL the whale whisperer tried waving his hands at the beluga whales and one of them started moving to his hand gestures.
We were damn amazed okay. Hahaha. Or is it we easily impressed??!
After a while other visitors started doing it too. Everyone was so tickled by it.
Took a few videos but video duration a bit too long so won't be posting them here.
We stood by their tank for some time just observing them.
It's pretty sad actually. The tank is big but definitely not big enough for them.
This is the same aquarium which made the news for housing the "world's saddest polar bear" in an enclosure which was way too small. I think they rehoused the polar bear due to the controversy, so we didn't see it! Only saw the empty enclosure.
They have arctic wolves too!
And white foxes which can easily be passed off as dogs. I wouldn't be able to tell.
SO CUTEEEEEE 😍
Okay last photo before I end my post.
The beluga whale totally posed better than us. Lolol. Such a perfectly timed photo.
Okay gtg someone is distracting me from dayre-ing. Will be back to tell you all about HK again!
